I'll always have a special place in my being for GGs. Their beauty and grace, their kindness and gentleness. Women are such trusting, caring, wonderous beings. Since I always felt I was one of them it was hard when I wasn't treated that way. I couldn't just be -- I had to be something I wasn't.

I had a GG roommate during the first part of my transition. Just as in Ms. Bolin's quote, I also felt a certain magic being around her and delighted in our numerous trips shopping, going to dinner, or just talking 'girl stuff'. She totally accepted me from the first time I came out to her; helped me with my makeup, picked out clothes, confided about men, comforted me when I was going through hard times.

I missed the experience growing up as a young girl and teenager. Sometimes when watching young girls play, or a group of teenage girls, I catch a glimpse of my missing childhood . . .
